Eva Plamondon
Died Sept. 6, 2014
Eva (Skeba) Plamondon, 88, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully after a brief hospitalization at Munson Medical Center on Sept. 6, 2014. She was born on the family farm in Lake Leelanau, the seventh of nine children to Theodore Skeba and Anna Popa on Nov. 17, 1925.
After graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1943, Eva moved to Traverse City where she worked at the State Hospital as a bookkeeper. In 1953 Eva married Cletus Plamondon of Lake Leelanau. A year after their marriage, they began raising a family of five children. Together in 1955, they started and ran Plamondon Shoes in Traverse City, which continues to operate to this day.
Eva's passions were many but family always came first. She was wonderful cook and baker, a consummate bridge player, and a lifelong gardener who especially loved tending her raspberries. She and Cletus enjoyed traveling and in later years spent the winter months in Palm Springs, Calif.
Even those who didn't know Eva immediately sensed her innate goodness and grace. Hospitality came naturally to Eva, who offered a cup of coffee and homemade treats to anyone who stopped by. Her generosity to family and strangers alike impressed all who encountered her. Eva's children teasingly called her "Saint Eva," which she strenuously denied.
Her qualities of humility and strength of character allowed her to endure trying times, without complaint. One of her favorite sayings was "this too shall pass." Eva's faith in God never wavered. Her humor and laughter saw her through life's many everyday challenges.
She is survived by her husband, Cletus, of 60 years. Her children are Guy (Anneke Wegman); Michelle Sleder (Gene); Gary; Jan Kostrisak (John), Dedham, Mass.; and Roger PhD. (Steve Singleton), Birmingha, Ala. She was the beloved "Grand" Mother to: Adrian, Jamie, Justin, Francis, Aimee, Ian, Ella, Nicholas and numerous endeared nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by all of her eight siblings; Edmund, George, Benjamin, Joseph, James, Stanley, Lawrence and Anna Mae Belanger.
