Evelyn Marie "Penny" Bergamo Kipley, 96, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2024.

Penny was born in Detroit on April 13, 1928, to Harold and Florence Rundel. She enjoyed her youth growing up in Thompsonville, Michigan, where she began her love for the outdoors.

Penny loved Northern Michigan and always sought out fun activities and the company of others. She is best known for her passion for square dancing in Northern Michigan. Penny was a beloved figure, seen by thousands when she participated in the National Cherry Festival along with her husband Chuck. They were always a highlight in their favorite matching outfits, handmade by Penny.

Penny and Chuck were married in August 1974, and together they created cherished memories. They loved traveling, especially for their square dancing events across the United States. They even taught square dancing to those wanting to learn. Penny had a vast network of friends and family, notably Linda and Ken, who introduced the two to square dancing.

In her free time, Penny enjoyed being outdoors and tending to her garden. She loved playing Euchre and other card games with her friends and always looked forward to visiting her favorite spot, "The Cherry Hut."

Penny was dedicated to helping others, volunteering at both Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Red Cross for over 30 years. Her joy and dedication to assisting others will always be remembered.

Penny is survived by: Rick Bergamo, (Rae), Denise Bergamo Geluso (Mike), Randy Kipley (Marilyn), Karen Kipley Jaszczalt (Tony), Many Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews, and her brother, Ed Swisher.

Penny is preceded in death by: Charles Kipley, Paul Bergamo, Kathy Bergamo Tharp, Joanie Fletcher Len Swisher.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National MS Society in remembrance of Kathy Bergamo Tharp.
