Evelyn Moss, a 54 year resident of Traverse City, died February 22, 2015 at the age of 101. She was married for 65 years to her husband, Frank H. Moss, who preceded her in death in 1998. Evelyn was born in Venice, IL to Maude and Benjamin Ingram, one of ten children. She moved to Chicago where she attended Austin High School and later met Frank. Besides living on Old Mission Peninsula for 42 years, Evelyn lived with her family in Kalamazoo and Excelsior, MN on Lake Minnetonka. Evelyn resided at The Highlander, Boardman Lake Glens, where she received kind and loving care for the past ten years.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Barbara Moss Keelan of Lake Ann, and Jeanne Moss (Bruce) Snapp of Alexandria, VA. A son, Frank Moss II, and wife, Jan (Telegard) Moss, both preceded her in death. Her parents and all of her siblings preceded her in death as well. Evelyn's seven grandchildren include Laura Keelan Miles (Chris) of Alexandria, VA; Douglas D. Keelan II (Rachelle), and Brian S. Keelan, all of Charlotte, NC; Frank H. Moss III (Sandy) of Woodhaven, Jennifer Moss Letica (Mato) of Auburn Hills, Emily Snapp Faragasso (Devin) of New Zealand, and Juliana Moss Snapp of Cambodia. Great-grandchildren are Samantha Miles, Caroline Miles, Cierra Keelan, Brianna Keelan, Lila Letica, Jack Letica, Nick Letica, Sophie Faragasso and Colin Faragasso.
Evelyn was an avid gardener and artist. She had an enthusiastic, creative spirit. She discovered her art ability while living in Kalamazoo where she became active in the newly established Kalamazoo Art Institute. In Traverse City, Evelyn was active for many years with the Northwestern Michigan Artists and Craftsmen. Her art work filled her apartment and hallway at the Highlander as well as the homes of her family . She loved teaching her grandchildren how to collect treasures from nature and create art. Evelyn was a volunteer with the Munson Medical Center Auxiliary for more than 25 years, serving as one of the buyers for the hospital gift shop. She was also a member of the Friendly Garden Club for many years.
Visitation for Evelyn will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, February 27 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 3 p.m., also at the Funeral Home, with Chaplain Ron White officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
