Traverse City - Evelyn Salash, 98, of Traverse City died March 26, 2017 at her daughter's foster care home with family by her side.
Evelyn was born on March 12, 1919 in Detroit to the late James W. and Myrtle B. (Hatchett) Davis.
Evelyn graduated from the Mackenzie High School in Detroit. She was a volunteer civil defense worker during WWII in Detroit.
On December 31, 1938 Evelyn married the love of her life, Victor Salash Sr. who was from Russia.
Evelyn was a member of the Ford Memorial United Methodist Church in Detroit.
Evelyn was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful homemaker and baker. She was known for her apple and cherry pies. Evelyn was an elegant and thoughtful lady who never missed a birthday or holiday. She sent so many cards to family and friends; she should have bought stock in Hallmark. She loved decorating her home for the holidays and hosting her family for gatherings. Evelyn also enjoyed reading, gardening, ceramics, and oil painting. She will be greatly missed.
Evelyn is survived by her baby sister, Shirley J. (George) Geyer; children Sandra (Richard) LaMontagne of Traverse City, Dotty (Gary) Brown of Omena and Victor (Sharon) Salash Jr. of Corona, California; grandchildren Cody Brown of Omena, Deborah (Bill) Watson of Traverse City, Robert (Connie) LaMontagne of Traverse City, Melanie Salash of Corona, California, Jeffery (Lucy) Salash of Corona, California, Melanie Leonard of Traverse City, and James Pepper of Traverse City; great grandchildren Cole Watson of Traverse City, Megan Salash of Corona, California, Darian Michaels of North Carolina, and Kendra (Maddie) Leonard of Ft. Lee, Virginia.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved Victor and her sister Anna Mae (Harry) Taylor.
