Evelyn L. Yankle
TRAVERSE CITY – Evelyn L. Yankle aka "Sister Ely", 97, of Interlochen, passed away at the Grand Traverse Pavilions, on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. She was born to Anna and Glenn Holler in Flint, Michigan on May 9, 1921. She had an early career at Michigan Bell Telephone and then much later in life (in her 70's) she worked at the Interlochen Public Library. She met and married Robert P. Yankle on September 14, 1946 and went on to raise four beautiful children; Robert P. Yankle II, Svona Yankle, Kathryn Yankle-King and Glenn Yankle. She thoroughly enjoyed reading, coloring, and gardening and always hoped she could be Jesus' main gardener when she went to Heaven. She spent years being a Girl Scout leader and Sunday school teacher for the Lutheran church, Missouri Synod. She greeted everyone with a smile and gave Jesus' blessings to them all upon her departure. Her most cherished goal and heart's desire in life was to be a mighty intercessor so that others would know and love Jesus.
She is survived by her 4 children, 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren (and one on the way). She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 50 years.
Visitation with the family will be July 11, 2018 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, with a Memorial Service beginning at 11:00 am with a lunch to immediately follow at Redeemer Lutheran Church, US 31 at Rogers Road in Interlochen, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Interlochen Public Library, 9700 Riley Road, Interlochen, MI 49643.
