Fern Irene Gardner, 88, of Traverse City and formerly of Leland, died Monday, October 27, 2014 at Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City.

Born on Wednesday, August 18, 1926 to the late William and Della (Wichern) Perrault in Leland, Fern was raised there as well as graduating from high school. She married Floyd "Jack" Gardner on Saturday, May 10, 1947 in Glen Arbor.

Fern and Jack moved to Traverse City from Leland in 1955. Together they were devoted members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City. They enjoyed square dancing and bowling and Fern especially enjoyed gardening. For many years, Fern was a seamstress for Eastfield Fashions prior to retirement.

She is survived by her daughters, Jackie Anderson of Traverse City and Peri (Mike) Hansen of St. Joseph; her son John (Nicole) Gardner of Fife Lake; grandchildren, Christina Rollo, David Anderson, James Anderson, Gregory Anderson, Ruth Gardner, Michael (Barbara) Gardner, Kelly (Dustyn) Arney, Dana Hansen, Lisa Hansen; great grandchildren, Alayna Anderson, Annabelle Rollo, Dylan Smith, Sarah Gardner and Maximilian Arney. Fern is also survived by a brother, Alvin (Esther) Perrault of Suttons Bay and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, her brother Vernon Perrault and sisters Viola Bardenhagen and Alice Van Horn.

The funeral service for Fern will take place today at 2 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, Traverse City with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery in Leland.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
