TRAVERSE CITY — Fern Joyce Kennedy, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at Grand Traverse Pavilions. Fern was born to the late Elba and Addie (Stites) Clark, who lived on the top of Bunker Hill Road in Acme, on Sept. 26, 1915. She lived there all of her life except for a short 11-year period in Detroit during her early childhood years. Fern graduated from Traverse City Central High School in the class of 1933. After high school she married Donald S. Kennedy in January of 1936 in Traverse City. She was a content homemaker while raising their three children. Surviving Fern are her children, Frances (Roy) Challender, of Acme, John (Mary Ann) Kennedy, of Acme, and Roger (Arlene) Kennedy, of Greenville; grandchildren, Michael (Sandy) Burkholder, Kelly (Hal) BeVier, David Burkholder, Bradley (Amy) Kennedy, John T. (Amy) Kennedy, Timothy Kennedy, Scott (Ann) Kennedy and Mary Scott (Lauro) Valles; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Don in 1969; siblings, Carl and Frances; twin sister, Fay in early childhood; her sister, Carmen Boday at the age of 88; and grandson, Steven Burkholder.A private family burial will take place at Acme Township Cemetery. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
