Florence Mary Thayer

Lake Ann - Florence Mary Thayer, 84, of Lake Ann passed away on November 17, 2015 at her home with her family by her side. She was born March 17, 1931 to Frank and Mary Bell in Ionia, Michigan.

Florence was preceded in death by her late husband of 64 years Everell D. Thayer Jr., her two brothers Frank and Jim Bell, son Anthony and grandsons Phil and Rob.

Florence is survived by her children Richard (Linda)Thayer, David (Sandra) Thayer, Jane (Gerald) Yost, Joan (Mike) Mysliwiec, Jeanne (Rodney) Stricker, Janet (Bill) Ogden, Mary Henning, Andrew (Lisa) Thayer, Betty (Patrick) Smith, Carla (Gale) Gauld, Everell (Cheryl) Thayer, Homero (Lillian) Peyrot, 43 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren.

In addition to caring for her family, Florence was very active at her parish in Grand Rapids. She was one of the leaders of the Christian Family Movement, started the St. James Youth Group, and volunteered by cutting hair at The Little Sisters of the Poor (The Home for The Aged).

After Florence's Nursing career of 17 years, her and Ev retired to Traverse City on Lake Ann, making St. Patrick Catholic Church their new home. Their interest were vast and varied. They were talented square dancers, amateur golfers, and world travelers.

Florence will be fondly remembered for her generosity, kind heart and deep faith. Her legacy of love and compassion will truly live on for generations to come.

Visitations will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 5-8 PM at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with the Rosary being said at 7 PM. A Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Nov. 23, 2015 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 630 S. West Silver Lake Rd., Traverse City, MI, at 11 AM, with visitation beginning at 10 AM.

Memorial contribution can be made to St. Patrick Food Pantry or Mass intentions for Florence.
