TRAVERSE CITY — Fontella N. Wheelock Wren, 97, longtime resident of Traverse City, passed away March 24, 2011, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City.She was born Sept. 29, 1913, to Arza and Della (Vance) Flesher. of Jay County, Ind., and entered into marriage with Raymond Wheelock on Dec. 3, 1932.Fontella is survived by two sons, Arza (Fern) Wheelock, of Buena Park, Calif., and Addison (Bonny) Wheelock, of Traverse City; two daughters, Doreen (Jim) Harrison, of Crane, Texas, and Velma "Val" (Gary) Sheffer, of Grawn; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 24 great great-grandchildren, as well as many other loving family members and friends.She married again on June 3, 1967, to Willard Wren.Fontella was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Wheelock; daughter, Elsie King; and son-in-law Jim King; Raymond Wheelock and Willard Wren; brother, Edward Flesher; and sisters, Ireta Weidenhamer, Gertrude Bales and Juanita Edwards. Her door was always open and ready to welcome old and new friends, not only with her happy smile but with helping hands whenever possible. She held a passion for reading and people. Fontella enjoyed weekly church services, bingo and many other social activities.Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Rick Rice will officiate.Graveside committal services will be held in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
