Ike passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, at Traverse Manor surrounded by family.
He grew up in Nappanee, IN, and attended Nappanee High School where he lettered in basketball, track and was quarterback on the school's first football team. He also sang in a barbershop quartet.
Ike went to Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana State University) on a basketball scholarship and married Carolyn Lutz in 1955 after graduation.
After two years in the Army he and Carolyn moved to North Liberty, Indiana, where Ike taught junior high math and coached junior high basketball, football and track. He also taught at Greene School and retired from Edison Middle School in South Bend.
After retirement they spent winters in Phoenix, Arizona. In 1998 they moved to Traverse City where he enjoyed playing golf and singing in the church choir.
Ike is survived by his wife Carolyn, daughters Kim (Mark) McDanell, Allison (Todd) Millar, and grandchildren Lauren (Carlos Blancarte) McDanell, Mitch (Danielle) McDanell and Mitch (Ashley) Millar.
At Ike's request there will be no service. The family will celebrate his life at Moomers in July.
