Obituary

Fran Tompkins Denawetz, 71, an Old Mission resident formerly of West Bloomfield, died on Tuesday, November 23, 2015. Fran was born March 30, 1944 in Traverse City to the late Seth and Rebecca Tompkins. She married Dan Denawetz on December 14, 1963 at Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and Old Mission Women's Club. She graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor's degree in Communication. Fran was a die-hard Spartan and enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge and pinochle. Fran was a servant leader and a West Bloomfield School Board member for nearly 20 years. She was an avid tennis player. Fran was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and Granny. Fran and Dan loved to travel the world and had a zest for life. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.

Fran is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Dan, two sons and two daughters; Seth (Kelly) Denawetz, Sara (Rob) Ward, Joey Denawetz, and Mary Denawetz, five grandchildren; Ryan and Sydney Denawetz, Jake, Hazel, and Justin Ward. Also surviving are two sisters; Murrie Gibson and Linda Ligon.

Friends are welcome to visit with Fran's family on Friday, November 27, 2015 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City, MI 49684.

A funeral service honoring Fran will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at First Congregational Church, 6105 Center Road, Traverse City, MI 49686. Pastor Chad Oyer will officiate. Burial will be at Ogdensburg Cemetery following the service.

A party for Fran will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Santia Hall, 1985 Cass Lake Road, Keego Harbor, MI 48320. Please wear Michigan State attire or colors.

Donations may be directed to the Old Mission Historical Society Tree Fund or the West Bloomfield Education Foundation (WBEF).
