Frances E. (Marshalek) Johnson, nearly 101 of Traverse City passed away at her home on March 6, 2022.

Frances was born on April 2, 1921 in Bessemer Michigan at the family farm and grew up with her eight brothers and sisters. She graduated from Bessemer High School in 1939. In 1941 she married Verner Johnson in Ironwood, Michigan. Frances and Verner then moved to Highland Park Michigan in the early 1940's with their only child David. After moving to Royal Oak in 1950, Frances went to work at a local supermarket where she advanced to head cashier. She retired in the early 1970's and she and Verner moved to Florida where they lived till 2012 when she moved to Traverse City to live with her son after the passing of her husband of 71 years.

Frances was also a very gifted crafter. When it came to ceramics, sewing, knitting, crocheting and everything in between she had few equals.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband Verner; siblings George, Tony, Rose, Sophie, Mary, Caroline and Josephine; daughter-in-law Ruth and grandchildren Ken and Christy.

Frances is survived by her son Dave, brother Stanley, and sister-in-law Carol as well as many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will take place on June 8, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Maple Grove Cemetery in Elk Rapids.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she attended in her later years.
