Francis Greer, 89, of Traverse City passed away July 4, 2012 at Rosegate Residential Care.
Francis was born on July 25, 1922 in North Star to the late Joseph C. and Elsie M. (Purdue) Greer.
Francis served our country honorably during WWII as a member of the United States Army and was honorably discharged.
On May 14, 1943 he married the former Burdena Grubaugh in Lansing.
Francis worked for 44 years as a factory manager with Warner and Swazey and later with Nolan Company. He was a lifetime member of the Cherryland VFW Post #2780. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling, golfing and wood working. He operated the lathe at the Buckley Old Engine Show for several years.
Francis was preceded in death by his wife Burdena and sister Mona Hersey.
Surviving Francis is his son Douglas (Barb) Greer of Perrinton, and daughter Marcia (Jim) Lyon of St. Johns. Francis is also survived by his grandaughter Toni Greer and grandsons Scott (Susie) Greer and Joshua Lyon and great grandsons Zachary Greer, Cole Greer, and Drew Greer; brother Joe (Beatrice) Greer of Traverse City, sister Molly Breabois of Mt. Clemens, brother Dennis (Beverly) Greer of North Star, sister Mary Faye (Dick) Moubrray of Diamondale, and brother Roscoe (Daria) Greer of Ithaca.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 6, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The funeral honoring Francis' life will take place on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 2:00 pm also at the Funeral Home followed by interment at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
