Francis Albion Kalena went home, to the Lord, Sunday, March 1, 2015. He is survived by three sons, David (Deborah), Zeke (Carly), and Mark (Nicole); daughter, Anne (Charles) Kalena Guenther. He was preceded in death by his wife, Retta, and sisters: Marie Kalena and Victoria Nemeskal.
Born in Cleveland Township, Leelanau County, Francis's early career was First-Mate on the Columbia line freighters. Around the time of his marriage, until retirement, he had a successful construction and excavation business in Maple City. He was a devout Catholic and parishioner at St. Joseph's/St. Rita's Catholic Church and a long-time member of the Maple City Lion's Club.
The funeral mass will be held from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 27 at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Maple City. A wake will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph's/St. Rita's Catholic Church in Maple City.
