Obituary

Francis "Buddy" Redding, Jr., 47, of Traverse City, died at Munson Medical Center on Monday, June 18, 2018. Francis had battled Severe Cardiomyopathy, Congestive Heart Failure & related complications since he was first diagnosed in 2000. Nearly 6 years ago he had a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) surgically implanted to assist his heart in pumping blood. He was looking forward to a heart transplant and the endless possibilities that would afford him.
He was born June 1, 1971 in Traverse City, MI to Francis (Bud) and Sharon (Carmien) Redding. He was a curious and brilliant son who loved his family and cared deeply for and dreamed of helping those less fortunate.
Francis graduated from Traverse City Central High School in June 1989 where he was a member of Model U.N. and the Debate Team. Everyone who knew him understands how much he loved to debate. He attended the University of Michigan and graduated in 1994 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics and in English. Francis' education also included State of Michigan licenses: Master Electrician, Electrical Contractor and Builder. Francis worked for 7 years at DRW Electric as an Estimator, Project Manager and second in command. He was a passionate man who brought that gift to every challenge life offered.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Traverse City and before that a member of Feast of Victory Lutheran Church in Acme. He loved God, his family and friends and had a deep abiding faith. He was certain there were better things ahead whether on earth or in the hereafter. He dreamed of writing and publishing a book to share his struggles, triumphs and reasons behind his unwavering belief.
Francis was an avid reader and when his eyesight began to fail after a stroke in 2011 he turned to books on tape, still desiring to learn. Francis' faith was very important to him and carried him through his 18 year battle with heart disease.
Francis was adventurous, had a zest for life and loved to travel. His last trip out of the country was to Costa Rica in 2000. He took some time off college to travel through Europe enjoying time in Ireland, England, Germany, Netherlands and Spain.
Francis is survived by his mother, Sharon and brother, Brock both of Traverse City. He is also survived by his Aunts and Uncles; Debra (Jim) Hymbaugh of Creston Iowa, Thomas (Denise) Redding of Creston Iowa and JoAnne (John) Courtade of Onalaska, Wisconsin Carolyn (Mike) Thayer of Traverse City, Nancy Challender of Otsego MI, special cousin Marcie (James) Powell & multiple cousins & friends.
