TRAVERSE CITY — Fredrick "Ray" Williams, 92, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. Fredrick Raymond Williams was born on Aug. 28, 1918, to the late Fredrick and Ida Pearl (Gillard) Williams while they were vacationing in Ontario, Canada.Ray attended and graduated from high school in Ann Arbor.Ray answered the call of duty, serving his country with the United States Navy during World War II. He made his living working for Chrysler at their Dexter plant until retiring and relocating to the Traverse City area in 1977.Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and bowling. Ray was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #1224 in Hamburg and an active part of the Cherryland V.F.W. Post #2780 Honor Guard for 31 years. Ray was also a member of the Masons.Ray is survived by his son, Fred Williams, of Crystal River, Fla.; two daughters, Ann (John) Yerkes, of Oregon, and Jackie (Joe) Marhofer, of Pickney; several grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends.Ray was preceded in death by his son, Edward Williams; and his wife, Celeste Mitchell. Graveside committal services with military honors will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. A wake will immediately follow at the V.F.W.
