Glada Joan Hansen, affectionately known as Joan, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, at the age of 94, just ten days before her 95th birthday. A resident of Traverse City, Joan was surrounded by the love and comfort of her family in her final days.
Joan was born on May 27, 1930, in Lake Leelanau, Michigan, to Joseph Kologe and Reva Meteer. She was raised with her brother, Karl "Lon" Kologe, and graduated from Central High School as part of the Class of 1947.
In time, Joan met and married the love of her life, Arthur Hansen. Together they built a beautiful life rooted in love, faith, and family. As co-owners of the Barlow Superette, Joan and Art served their community with warmth and care, forming lifelong connections with neighbors and customers alike.
A devoted member of Saint Francis Catholic Church, Joan lived out her faith daily. She served as a eucharistic minister and participated actively in parish life, always extending a helping hand and a generous heart to those in need.
Family was Joan's greatest joy. She and Art were blessed with two children, Arthur Leonard Hansen III and Karen Walters.
Joan is survived by her beloved husband of many years, Arthur Hansen Jr; her son, Arthur Hansen III; Son-in-law David, her grandchildren, Alexis Hansen, and David Jr. (Tina) Walters and their children David III and Michael, and her nephews, Jeremy and Marcus Kologe.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Walters, and her brother, Lon Kologe.
Joan will be remembered for her quiet strength, her unwavering kindness, and the grace with which she moved through life.
A Funeral Service will be held on May 27th, 2025 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street. A visitation will begin at 1:30 pm, with the Funeral starting at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
