Garry Martin Boyer, 73, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025 at his home under the care of hospice with his family by his side.
Garry was born on October 13, 1952 in Detroit to the late Paul L. and Harriet A. (Ball) Boyer.
Garry moved to the Farmington area in middle school and graduated from high school in 1970.
On January 29, 1972 he married his high school sweetheart Janet McKay DuBois. They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this year.
He was a proud American who served our country in the U.S. Army for 21 years. Garry enlisted in 1971 and achieved the rank of Master Sargent, serving as a Behavioral Services Counselor for most of that career.
Following his time in the service he took on many jobs, and loved his gig as a radio DJ playing the blues for WNMC. He loved many types of music, but the blues were his favorite. He also enjoyed growing trees and roses and watching them bloom.
He will be remembered as a kind, silly, quick-witted man and will be greatly missed.
Garry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet; their children Kim (Glen) Hayden, Paul Boyer, Adam Boyer and Josh (Lexi) Boyer; grandchildren Paige Stanziola, Nathan Stanziola, Zayne Hayden, Lillian Boyer, Brody Boyer, Payton Boyer, Taj Hood, Paxton Boyer and Murphy Boyer; sisters Barbara (Jim) Mellis and Paulette (John) Crockenberg; and many extended family members and friends.
The family will celebrate his life in the Spring of 2026.
Memorial contributions in his honor may be directed to Wounded Warrior Project.
