Gary Theodore Beck, 82, of Traverse City, passed away June 16, 2021 at home with his loving family at his side.
Gary was born in Highland Park Michigan to the late Svend and Hilda (Henning) Beck. He married Susan E. Mead on March 23, 1961 in East Lansing MI. Together they lovingly raised two wonderful daughters Kathleen and Kareen.
Gary's family moved to the Traverse City area in 1940. He graduated from Traverse City High School in the Class of 1957. Following graduation he earned his Associates Degree from NMC and attended Michigan State University. Gary was employed at National Bank and Trust for 14 years as a bank loan officer. He was a board member at Crooked Tree Girl Scouts, a member of Elks Lodge and the Traverse City Jr. Chamber of Commerce
After retirement for 23 years Gary and Sue traveled all over the southern United States and Mexico. They wintered 6 months a year in Rockport, TX.
Gary was an avid outdoorsman in early years, engaged in mink ranching, trapping, hunting and fishing, expert long distance canoer and adventurer, Hobie Cat sailor, and RV explorer to Baja of Mexico.
After the loss of his wife Sue, Gary met Cathy and they enjoyed each other's company by traveling to Europe and Alaska as well as staying at home appreciating the beauty of East Bay.
Gary is survived by his daughter Kathleen (Timothy) McCullen of Kalkaska, MI, son-in-law John Latoski of Mount Pleasant, MI, grandchildren, Kelsey (Chris) Childers of Anchor Point, AK, Tyler McCullen of Ada, MI, Julian Latoski of Mount Pleasant, MI, his significant other Cathy Sivits of Traverse City, MI and many other loving family members and friends.
Gary is preceded in death by his wife Sue and his daughter Kareen.
A private family gathering will be planed for a later time.
"Here yesterday, gone today. 2 great daughters and sons-in-law, 3 wonderful grandchildren and one super great wife. Life was good."
A memorial celebration honoring Gary's life will take place on August 1, 2021, at 1pm with a picnic to follow from 2-5pm. All events are taking place at his home, 7492 East Shore Road Traverse City, MI 49686.
