Gary Lee Horn, 87, of Traverse City met his Lord and Savior on October 30, 2021. He was a faithful man who will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.

Gary was born on May 17, 1934 in Traverse City to the late William Victor and Lillian Jeannette (Phelps) Horn.

On December 5, 1953, Gary married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Ann Langworthy. Together they loved to square dance and western style dance. They also loved their church family at Central United Methodist. They were faithful members for more than 65 years. Gary was very active in the church, participating in the finance committee, leading the ushers, helping with the newsletter, and many other areas.

Gary worked for the Traverse City Record Eagle for 24 years. He retired in 1976 and then went back to work for the Grand Traverse Newspaper Distributors. He retired again in 2000.

Gary was a member of the Traverse City Elks Lodge #323 for over 50 years. He was exalted ruler in 1994 and 1995 and remained an active Elk for many years.

In his free time he enjoyed watching U of M play football, playing golf in his younger years, and playing cards. He was blessed to get the perfect cribbage hand once and he remembered that day fondly!

He was also a very active volunteer with the National Cherry Festival and loved to help with the parades. Gary also loved Interlochen and was a volunteer there for many years.

He was a patriotic person and loved to celebrate Flag Day on June 14th.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barb, and daughter Linda.

Gary is survived by his son David (Teresa) Horn; granddaughters Alison (Noah) Colvin and Melissa (Alex) Potter; step granddaughter Sarah (Amber) Prescott; great grandchildren Dylan and Brittney; and sisters Kay (James) Rumbach and Karen Couturier.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 1, 2021 from 5 to 7 pm at Central United Methodist Church. The funeral will also be held at the church on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 12 noon, with visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
