Gary William Michels

Gary William Michels, 79 of Traverse City, passed away Wednesday, October 08, 2014 at Cherry Hill Haven.

Gary was born on November 18, 1934 in Detroit to the late Anthony and Frances (Smoltz) Michels. He married Patricia C. Holden on May 5, 1956 in Detroit. Together they raised two wonderful daughters.

Gary and Pat moved to the Traverse City area from Warren in 1970. He was a tool and Die Maker. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the church choir, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Chamber of Commerce and the NRA. In his spare time Gary enjoyed hunting, playing his harmonica, Base Ball and Hockey. He loved good homemade meals and ice cream. Most importantly, Gary loved his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His tender smile and loving heart will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving Gary is his wife Patricia of 58 years, daughters, Deborah (Rick) Paid, Denise Michels, grandchildren, Lee (Tiffanie) Reamer, Lindsey (Fiancée Chris Carlos) Reamer, great grandchildren, Anthony and Harmony Reamer and Lethan Carlos and his beloved dogs, Molly, Mindy and Maggie.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Donald and Ron.

Visitation for Gary will take place on Monday, October 13, 2014 from 5-7pm with a Scripture Service held at 7pm at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 11am. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church. Burial will take place at the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
