Geneva Mary Yanski, 89, of Traverse City, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Munson Medical Center.
Geneva was born on January 23, 1927 to the late Theodore and Lorraine M. (Wurm) Yanski in Hannah, MI.
Geneva was a long time member of St. Francis Catholic Church. She worked for Michigan Public Service now known as Consumers Power as a secretary for 42 dedicated years. Also, she devoted many of her years taking care of her mother Lorraine. In her spare time she liked to spend time with her family, cooking, and go out to dinner with friends. Traveling brought great joy to Geneva, she especially enjoyed her travels to Italy and the Grand Canyon. After Dementia set in, Geneva moved into Tendercare where she enjoyed reading, playing Bingo and being around her new friends. Geneva will be fondly remembered as a strong independent woman born way before her time.
Surviving Geneva are her siblings, Dee Kruse, Betty (Leonard) Popa, sister-in-law Ann Yanski, Pat (Nancy) Yanski, , Nieces and nephews, Ann Marie (Tom) Plamondon, Jim (Cindy) Kruse, Nancy Kruse, Shari Kruse, Dave (Merri Lyn) Popa, Michael Popa, Chuck (Mary) Popa, Bill (Sandy) Popa, Shelly (Joe) Becker, John (Lisa) Yanski, Tammy (Kneale) Weatherholt, Tracey (Ronda) Yanski, and many great and great-great nieces nephews and cousins.
Geneva is preceded in death by her parents and brother Ted Yanski, brother-in-law Edward Kruse and great niece Nicole Popa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11am on Wednesday February, 24, 2016 at St. Francis Catholic Church with a visitation held one hour prior. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Church. Kindly share thoughts and memories with Geneva's family at
