Genevieve Johanna Fagerstrom

TRAVERSE CITY - Genevieve Johanna Fagerstrom, age 92, of Traverse City passed away Friday, January 20, 2017 at the Boardman Lake Glens Highlander surrounded by her loving family.

Genevieve was born on Friday, December 5, 1924 to the late Ole and Johanna (Jensen) Berge in Madison, WI. She graduated from high school in Madison, WI in 1941 and continued her education at the University of Wisconsin, where she earned her bachelors degree. Genevieve then earned her Masters degree from the University of Minnesota and embarked on a long career as a clinical social worker in her own private practice and as a college professor. On Thursday, September 2, 1948 in Minneapolis, MN, Genevieve married Dalphy I. Fagerstrom.


Having lived in Traverse City since her retirement in 1987, she had previously lived in Minneapolis, MN. Genevieve was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and enjoyed; reading, traveling, and spending time with her family here and in Minnesota.

Genevieve is survived by her children; Matthew (Victoria) Fagerstrom of Traverse City, Mia (Glenn) McDavid of Roseville, MN, grandchildren; Jason (Shanna) Janowiak, Nicky (David) Leslie, Rachel (Mike) Anderson, James McDavid, Tom McDavid, Sam Fagerstrom, Luke Fagerstrom, and Nick, great-grandchildren; Jack, Ella, Ruby, Harper, Tyler, and Skylar. Also surviving is her brother, R. Philip Berge of New York. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband who died in 1977, 4 siblings, and 2 infant children.

A memorial service for Genevieve will take place on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the Grace Episcopal Church at 11:00 am with a visitation one hour prior. Rev. Carlton Kelley will officiate. A luncheon will be held following the service in the church reception hall.

Genevieve will be buried next to her husband at Roselawn Cemetery in Roseville, MN, at a later date.

In accordance with Genevieve's wishes, memorial contributions may be directed to the Jubilee House c/o of Grace Episcopal Church, 325 Washington Street, Traverse City, MI 49684.

The family would like to thank and acknowledge Dr. Walter Meeker and the staff at Boardman Lake Glens Highlander, physicians and nursing staff at Munson Medical Center, Munson Home Care, Munson Hospice, and a very special thank you to Barbara Klueh for the love, encouragement, and friendship she has shown to Genevieve over the years of friendship they had.
