TRAVERSE CITY — Genevieve D. Peplinski, 94, beloved mother and grandmother, passed peacefully into the arms of her loving God on Wednesday morning, Oct. 19, 2011, at Munson Hospice House, with her loving daughters by her side.Born Jan. 30, 1917, in Maple City, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Osie) Schettek. On Sept. 28, 1940, at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Maple City, she married Edward P. Peplinski. Together they shared 39 wonderful years with their family and friends, enjoying what they loved to do best. Eddie preceded her in death in 1979.Genevieve was dedicated to her God and her church. She had many crosses to bear throughout her life and accepted them all as God's will. She was a faithful, longtime, active member of St. Francis Catholic Church, where she served on the funeral luncheon committee and participated in the Altar Society.For many years, Genevieve worked as a nurse's aide at Munson Medical Center, where she cared for her patients with much compassion. She retired in 1979 to spend more time with her husband and family.She also received much joy in being a homemaker. You never visited her without enjoying one of her homemade soups or delicious desserts. She took great pride in her home and enjoyed working endless hours in her yard and beautiful flower gardens. Family was extremely important to Genevieve; she devoted her life to her children and grandchildren and was an unwavering source of encouragement, support and love in their lives.She will be lovingly remembered for her tender heart, her kindness to others and her gentle giving spirit.Genevieve is survived by her devoted daughters, Carolyn (James) Carroll and Arlene Hinds, both of Traverse City; three grandchildren, Scott Carroll (Vikki), of Traverse City, Michael (Karen) Carroll, of California, and Mandie Carpenter, of Traverse City; six great-grandchildren, Savannah, Logan, Gunner, Ashton, Peyton and Paisley; five step grandchildren, Maren, Anna, Cathy, Erica and Donald; eight step great-grandchildren; two step great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Novak, of Traverse City, and Paul (Arlene) Schetteck, of Maple City; sister-in-law, Irene Schettek; along with many special nieces, nephews, friends, caregivers and neighbors; and we must not forget her loyal, loving companion, Sheila, her little dog.In addition to her husband, Genevieve was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kristin Carroll; siblings, Veronica Levenske, Lillian Peplinski, Josephine Lewis and Alex Schettek; sisters-in-law, Lucille Whitten and Rose Schopiery; and former son-in-law, Rocky Hinds.The family of Genevieve would especially like to thank the exceptional, loving staff at Munson Hospice House for their wonderful care of our mother during her last days.The Peplinski family will receive friends at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be offered at St. Francis Catholic Church on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Kenneth Stachnik serving as the celebrant.
