TRAVERSE CITY — Genevieve E. Zimmerman, age 89, was called to her heavenly home on Dec. 20, 2010. She passed away at Munson Hospice House following a long illness. Genevieve was born on July 22, 1921, the daughter of Elmer and Stella Bahls, of Danville, Ill. She was born again of water and the Spirit in Holy Baptism at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Danville, Ill., on Aug. 7, 1921. She confirmed her baptismal faith before the same altar on April 14, 1935. Genevieve married the Rev. Paul A. Zimmerman on June 11, 1944. Along with Paul, she is survived by daughter, Karmin J. Philp and husband, Raymond, of Traverse City; by son, the Rev. Thomas P. Zimmerman and wife, Marsha, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and by grandchildren, the Rev. Paul Philp and wife, Sharon and their daughter (great-granddaughter), Natalie, the Rev. Luke Zimmerman, Mark Zimmerman, John Zimmerman, and Kristin Carroll and husband, Steven. Genevieve was a talented and devout Christian wife and mother who dedicated her life to family, church and community. She loved gardening and was well known for her culinary arts. During the family's residence in Ann Arbor, Genevieve served as member and chairperson of the University of Michigan Hospital Women's Auxiliary. In this capacity she served thousands of hours as buyer and salesperson for the hospital gift shop. Visitation will be held at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home today, Dec. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be held at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 912 S. Garfield Ave., Traverse City, on Thursday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the church. Graveside services with burial will follow at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
