Obituary

Geoffrey Martin Bell, 69, of Interlochen, MI passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. He was born on April 27, 1956, in Flint, MI as the younger of two sons to George and Geraldine Bell, who predeceased him. Geoff is survived by his wife, Kristin, his children, Zoe, Greg, and Eli, additional children Isabella and Lisbet, brother Greg (Ronna), nephew Graham (Clare) and niece Reilley (Kelley), and a large extended family of cousins, friends, and neighbors.

A graduate of Carmen High School and Trinidad State College, where he earned a degree in gunsmithing, Geoff spent his entire career as a proud and loyal member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters UA Local 370, celebrating his 45th year in the union last year. He deeply believed in the power of unions, and in robust education in the trades. He was a craftsman and could always be found building something new in his workshop, sewing a show-stopping outfit, cooking a delicious and original meal, or mixing a new cocktail. He supported local artists and artisans, swapping deep-cut music recommendations with the local musicians and creating themed family meals using the best ingredients his beloved northern Michigan had to offer, all while wearing matching outfits he created with his wife, strutting his unique style across town with unmatched confidence and a zeal for life.

Geoff's deep love for Michigan was surpassed only by the love for his family and friends, which he showed through endless acts of service and devotion. For him, no one was a stranger, just a new friend, worthy of his time and compassion. His home was always open to anyone in need of a place to belong. As we mourn the loss of our Geoff, we remember the boundless joy he put into this world. With a pep in his step, a smile on his face, and a song in his heart, he could light up a room and make every person feel seen and special. To know Geoff was to know love and kindness; to know Geoff was to know the best of humanity.

In a fashion befitting the special character of this incredible man, a party will be scheduled soon for family and friends to celebrate our love for him together. In lieu of flowers, please make a dedicated donation in memory of Geoff to Interlochen Public Radio, which often provided the soundtrack for his adventures, inspiring awe and gratitude for this amazing place he was able to call home.
