Obituary

George Edward DeWitt, 84, of Maple City passed away in his home 7/10/2022.

George was the last born of five children of the late Clifton Allen DeWitt and Letty Mae (Reed) DeWitt. He was born in Lansing, MI on 2/21/1938. He was preceded in death by his brothers Jim and Bob. Surviving are his sister Gloria DeWitt of Horton, MI and brother Gene DeWitt (Charlene) of Okeechobee, FL.

He married the late Shirley Josephine Price and had three children Dean, Dawn Trumbull and Dede (Don) deManigold. He had eight grandchildren, many great grandchildren and one great-great grand daughter. Also, many nieces and nephews.

He owned his own cleaning and supply business in Adrian, MI. He also cleaned windows and had his own business cleaning spas and gyms in Lansing.

George later retired in beautiful Leelanau County. He loved it so much. He would ride around on his bike with his dog, a Yorkie named Jody. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and canning his own food. He loved his venison stew. He enjoyed watching western movies and reading western books.

Everyone knew he could joke with the best of them. He would tell lies with a straight face and make you believe it. He would laugh so hard when you found out the truth.

He was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church in Vandercook Lake, MI. He didn't want anyone to worry. He will be buried beside his loving son Dean and near by his nephew Jimmy.

The family will all miss him greatly.

Public graveside services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Maple City, MI on Thursday July 14, 2022 at 11 a.m. The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
