Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY — Georgetta McDonald Ducheney, 91, of Traverse City, passed away Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at Tendercare Nursing Home. Georgetta was born March 19, 1919, in Kingsley, to the late George and Roseline (Brautigam) Box. She married Carl Calvin McDonald in 1939. On Oct. 5, 1974, she married Arthur J. Ducheney in Traverse City.She graduated from Manton High School and then came to Traverse City for Practical Nurses School. After permanently moving to Traverse City in 1940 she worked at Munson Medical Center. She was a valuable and dedicated nurse, and eventually became the President of the Michigan Licenses Practical Nurses Association from 1972 to 1974. She was the President of the Traverse City Nurses Association, President of the Business and Professional Woman's Association of Traverse City, State Historian of the State Licensed Practical Nurses Association and a member of the Munson Medical Center Women's Auxiliary. Also, she was a faithful member of Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City, a member of MADD and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting and volunteering at The Father Fred Foundation. Surviving Georgetta are her children, William (Diane) McDonald, Charles (Theresa) McDonald, Betty Lou (Andrew) Straub Jr. and Barbara (Karl) Anderson; daughter-in-law, Kathy McDonald; grandchildren, Wendy (John) Lovette, Chris (Sally) McDonald, Chad (Samantha) McDonald, Craig (Jennifer) McDonald, Melissa (Jonathon) Dixon, Brie (Jacob Jones) Anderson, Chelsea Anderson, Megan (Rich) Doher, Charles McDonald, Michael McDonald and Quinn McDonald; and great-grandchildren, Whitney, Ryan, Madison, Natalie, Bailey, Kaitlyn, Conner and Aiden.Georgetta was preceded in death by both of her husbands, Carl and Arthur; son, Robert; sister, Lula Manville; stepmother, Mable Houghton; and two grandchildren. Visitation will take place on Monday, Nov. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m., at The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at Central United Methodist Church. Burial will take place in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
