Gerald Allen Gorrell
Glen Arbor-Gerald Gorrell, 74, of Glen Arbor passed away February 13, 2013
Gerald was born May 1, 1938 in Charleroi, Pennsylvania to the late Creed and Helen (Hollis) Gorrell.
On April 4, 1959, Gerald married his high school sweetheart, the former Janice Ann Coulston in Dearborn.
Jerry honorably served as a member of the United States Naval Reserves 1956-1968, working in communications. During his time in the service, he pursued and received a degree in electrical
engineering from Wayne State University. He had a 35 year career as an Electrical Engineer for the Ford Motor Company where he was responsible for the issuance of numerous patents. Jerry became interested in amateur radio while in high school, a passion that continued throughout his life. He was very active in the Traverse City/Leelanau area Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) and the Radio Amateur Civil Engineering Services (RACES) and has QSL/contact cards representing his vast array of communications from all over the world.
For the past 19 years, he and Janice have enjoyed retirement in Glen Arbor. He was active in the Glen Lake Schools as a math and science tutor and served on the scholarship board. Jerry was also active in the Glen Lake Artists. In his spare time he built furniture, loved the outdoors and could repair anything from appliances to automobiles.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 53 years Janice, daughters Lynn (Joe) Siciliano of Dearborn, MI and Susan (Ken) Baker of Dearborn, MI, grandchildren Anthony, Alexandra and Maria Siciliano and Grace Baker, brother William (Barbara) Gorrell of Bellaire, MI and brother-in-laws Dale (Patti) Coulston of Suttons Bay, MI and Wayne (Marilyn) Coulston of St. Clair Shores, MI.
A memorial service is being planned for summer 2013.
