Traverse City - Ginny Wellman, 90, of Traverse City passed away September 22, 2014 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
Ginny was born on April 10, 1924 in Tamaqua, PA to the late John Adam and Elizabeth Ann (Schade) Habel.
While attending the Hershey County Fair in Pennsylvania, Ginny and two of her girlfriends were spotted on the ferris wheel by three young men on leave from the U.S. Army Air Corps. Shortly after the two began dating, and as they say, the rest is history. On December 18, 1948 Ginny married Max Eugene Wellman in Laureldale, PA.
Ginny was a member of the Community of Christ Church. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, especially roses. She greatly enjoyed her 20 years at the Pinestead Reef Restaurant. Ginny had the type of personality that enabled her to make friends with anyone. She could brighten everyones day with her wonderful sense of humor. She was a true character. Ginny will be greatly missed by her family whom she loved unconditionally and whole-heartedly.
Ginny is survived by her daughter Linda Tyler of Kalamazoo, Carol(Wilton) Fitzgerald of Weaver, AL, son Max (Marilyn) Wellman of Portage, grandchildren Kiley (Don) Crowell of Traverse City, Jonathon (Neva) Leatherman of Queen Creek, AZ, Douglas (Shelly) Tyler of Kalamazoo, Max Robert Wellman of Portage, Alexander Wellman (Fiancee Alexis Cummings) of Portage, great grandson Dakota Korb of Chandler, AZ, Zac, Noah, JJ, and Elizabeth Crowell of Traverse City, and Jet Leatherman of Queen Creek, AZ; and sister Dorothy Summers of West Wyomissing, PA.
Ginny was preceded in death by her husband Max E. in 1986 and sisters Carol Jane Buda and Geraldine Warr.
A celebration of Ginny's life will take place on Saturday, October 4, 2014 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Green Briar Cemetery in Almira Township.
Memorial contributions in memory of Ginny may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society.
