Gladys W. Eggli, age 97, of Traverse City, peacefully passed away on January 2, 2025.
Born on September 23, 1927 in Penetanguishene, Ontario, Canada - she took her first steps on a Great Lakes steamship and later grew up in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. In 1954, Gladys moved to Traverse City where she worked at Metropolitan Life as an assistant supervisor for 17 years. During this time, she met the love of her life, Bill Eggli, who affectionately called her "Clem."
Gladys was a ceramic artist and owned Gladys Porcelain & Doll Supplies, china painting was her passion. She was also a member of Eastern Star and the Grand Traverse Porcelain Decorators. Gladys lived a remarkable life and had many creative hobbies. From golfing to crocheting, quilting, playing bingo, cards, shuffleboard, and of course china painting, she infused beauty and love into everything she touched. When Bill passed 23 years ago, Gladys continued to write her own story, traveling to Florida, making lifelong friends, and living life to the fullest.
Gladys's legacy will forever inspire those who knew her to cherish creativity, embrace change, and live each day with purpose and kindness.
She's preceded in death by her husband, William Eggli (2002); and her brothers John (Ellen) Bell and Richard (Georgia) Bell.
Gladys leaves behind a family who adored her and friends who will miss her spark. She is survived by her daughter, Leisa (Dennis) Waineo; granddaughters: Cheryl (Nathan) Dale, Erin (Jack Hein) Waineo; great granddaughters: Mackenzie, Avery; and brother, Patrick (Jan) Bell.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St. Traverse City. Family will welcome visitors an hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
