Gladys Esther "Hap" Hunt, 98, of Traverse City died Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Traverse Victorian Senior Living in Traverse City, where she had made her home the last few years.
She was born in Sidney Township, Michigan on December 12, 1916, the daughter of Otto and Marie (Andersen) Jensen. On May 10, 1965, Hap married Wallace "Wally" Hunt who preceded her in death in 1975.
Hap had been the owner of the former Circle Inn (now Round's) in Traverse City, and retired in 1984 from her nursing position at Traverse City Osteopathic Hospital after many years of service.
Hap loved the change of seasons, especially fall. She enjoyed the beauty of nature and liked taking her dogs for long walks in what is now Holiday Hills, when it was nothing but trails and woods. She also liked to cook, bake, read, travel and watch the many species of birds that visited her feeders. Hap enjoyed organic gardening and raising roses. Hap will long be remembered as a gentle person with a sense of humor and compassion for people and animals. During her lifetime, she had many valued friendships.
In addition to her husband, Hap was preceded in death by her step-son Douglas Hunt; step-mother Edith (Bachman) Jensen, brother Paul (Mabel) Jensen, sisters, Agnete (A. L. "Whitey") Petersen and Helen (Jim) Martin, nephew, Howard Jensen and nieces, Sandra Ouimet and Evonne Fletcher.
She is survived by her nephews Curtis (Brenda)Petersen of Greenville, Steven Petersen of Sausalito, CA, nieces Sharon Jensen of Oro Valley, AZ, Lauren (Phil) Dixon of FL, Karen (Ulysses) Davis of TX, Susan (Bob) Rogalski, Jo (Dave) Stephens, many great grand nieces and nephews, step-daughter-in-law, Daisy Hunt of Traverse City, step-granddaughter Sue (Bob) Westlake and step-great-granddaughters, Stephanie and Kelli Westlake.
A special thank you to the staff of Traverse Victorian Inn for the excellent and loving care they provided Hap.
In keeping with her wishes, Hap will be buried in Oakwood Cemetery. She also requested that she be remembered with memorial contributions to the Cherryland Humane Society, 1750 Ahlberg Rd., Traverse City 49686 or to AC Paws, P. O. Box 94, Acme 49610.
