Traverse City - Gladys Marie Rivard, 95, of Traverse City passed away December 3, 2013 at Munson Hospice House.
Gladys was born on October 27, 1918 in Long Lake Township to the late Loren and Caroline (Dalzell) Wares.
In 1938 Gladys married Almon Jake Rivard.
Gladys was a strong, faithful friend, and a devoted wife and mother. She was a devout member of Grace Episcopal Church.
In her spare time Gladys enjoyed golfing and was a long time member of the Traverse City Golf & Country Club. She was an excellent Bridge player and also enjoyed playing tennis. Gladys loved to dance and listen to music especially country music. She was also known for her million dollar fudge and famous date and nut bars.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband A. Jake Rivard who passed away while on vacation in China, daughter Kay Jean, brothers Theron "Moose" Wares, Earl Wares, and Kenneth Wares.
Gladys is survived by her daughter Jayne (Daniel) McCormick, grandchildren Patty Jo Hopkins, Laura Roush, Michael (Mami) Roush, Melissa (Mark) Blodgett, Amy McCormick, Susan McCormick, and Daniel (Pam) McCormick, great grandchildren Katie, Jordan, Alexis, Vanessa, Lindsey, Maegan, and Hannah, sister-in-law Dorothy Wares and special friend Zora McIntyre.
The funeral celebrating Gladys' life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Grace Episcopal Church at 12:30 with visitation one hour prior. The Very Rev. Daniel P. Richards will lead the service of remembrance.
