Glen "Arnold" Baatz

MAPLE CITY — Glen "Arnold" Baatz, 74, of Maple City passed away Jan. 12, 2014. Arnold was born on Jan. 25, 1939, in Maple City, to the late Robert and Margaret (Welch) Baatz.
After graduating in 1957 from Glen Lake Community School, Arnold worked on the family farm for a few years before enlisting with the United States Air Force. Arnold was honorably discharged in December of 1963 and spent two years in the Reserves.
Following his time in the service, Arnold began working for Chrysler after encouragement from his uncle, Earl. He worked for Chrysler for 40 years prior to his retirement.
In his spare time, Arnold enjoyed being outdoors and hunting. He also cherished his new cars that he routinely purchased as a Chrysler employee.
In February of 1972, Arnold married his wife Sally. She passed away in 1998. Arnold was also preceded in death by his brothers, R.D. and Rod; and his brothers-in-law, Jack Vert and Al Durga.
Arnold is survived by his siblings, Grace Vert, Marjorie (Bob) Lessard, Gerrit Jonathon "Tim" Baatz, Gwen Durga and Ruth "Sally" (Frank) Majszak; sisters-in-law, June Baatz and JoAnn Baatz; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, May 10, at 11 a.m., at Empire United Methodist Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service and followed by graveside services at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Empire Area Museum or to Empire United Methodist Church.
