Obituary

Glen Thomas Harding Jr., "Tom", age 85 of Traverse City, Michigan went to his heavenly home on January 30th, 2025. Glen passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family. He was born to Glen Thomas Sr. And Louise (Thiel) Harding on November 11th, 1939, in Pontiac, Michigan. Glen married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lou (Kramer) Harding.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen Thomas Sr. And Louise (Thiel) Harding, his father and mother in-law Fritz and Caritas Kramer, as well as his brother Bill Harding. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Lou, brother Paul (Gerrie) Harding, sister-in-law Mary Harding, sister Kay (Steve) Andrews, sister Glenda Gaddis, daughter Jill (Chad) Jestes, son Glen (Suzann) Harding, daughter Terri Sheldon, son Tim (Teri) Harding, eleven grandkids and fourteen great grandkids, with one on the way.

Glen graduated from St Michael's in Pontiac, Michigan. After graduating, he joined the United States Air Force where he served for four years as a sentry dog handler with the Military Police. Following his time in the service, he continued his police work, serving for Farmington City, Cheboygan, and later, retired from the Grand Traverse County Sheriffs Office after twenty six years. When Glen wasn't working, he took pride in hunting and fishing with his family and friends which led to endless stories that he loved to share. Following his retirement, he would winter in Mesa, Arizona, for twenty years. He cherished the friends he had met and the time spent with family while enjoying the warm weather.

He could often be caught at Thirlby Field, cheering on the St. Francis Gladiator football team, even after his children graduated. Glen was also known for enjoying a good old fashion game of euchre, had an immense joy for donuts, strawberry milkshakes (especially from Don's Drive-In), and never turned down one of the many cookies Mary Lou hand made.

Glen was a founding member of Christ the King church, an active member in the Knights of Columbus, and treasured his faith and relationship with the Lord.

A visitation will be held at Reynolds Jonkhoff funeral home on Wednesday, February 5th from 4-7pm with a Rosary at 6pm. A Catholic Mass will be held on Thursday, February 6th at Christ the King Catholic Church with visitation at 9am and a service at 10am with a luncheon to follow. A military burial will happen at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
