Obituary

Glen H. Lee began enjoying his life in heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 24, 2017. He was born on April 26, 1918, in Bingham Township, Leelanau County, Michigan, to Albert Ackley Lee and Hannah Ulvund Lee. Lee Point, near Suttons Bay, is named for his family. His parents predeceased him in death, as did his baby sister Alice Mildred Lee; two brothers, Donovan Albert Lee and Ivan "Ike" Wendall Lee; and two unnamed infants.

On August 24, 1951, Glen married Dorothy Ione Morse, and they enjoyed their married life together until just a few days before their 65th anniversary, when the Lord took Dorothy home to be with Him in August, 2016. Glen and Dorothy raised three sons, who survive them: Larry (Keri) Lee, Loren (Amber) Lee, and Allen (Vicky) Lee; also surviving them are seven grandchildren (Trevor, Samantha, Jamie, Lauren, Marleigh, Morgan, and Sydney Lee); four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In May, 1941, Glen was drafted into the Army, where he served for the duration of World War II, until October, 1945. He served as a cook for a searchlight unit in Hawaii immediately following Pearl Harbor, later serving as a chaplain's assistant with a radar unit in England, crossing the Channel into Normandy on D-Day + 1, and on to the Battle of the Bulge until the end of the war in Europe.

Glen finished high school after the war, eventually becoming the first LPN in Michigan, and working at the Traverse City Regional Psychiatric Hospital for 26 years, as well as 6 interim years at Jackson State Prison, retiring from the psychiatric hospital in 1980.

He served in various capacities for many years at his church, College Terrace Wesleyan in Traverse City, but spent 26 winters in the warmer climate of Florida. Glen had the heart of a servant, quietly bringing pleasure to many with meals, knitted or crocheted gifts, and literally thousands of dozens of home-baked cookies. His gentle spirit will be greatly missed!

Funeral services will take place at 1pm on Friday, September 29, 2017 at The Journey Wesleyan Church in Traverse City. Burial will take place at a later time at the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions made in Glen's name to The Journey Wesleyan Church, 2825 South Airport Rd., Traverse City, MI 49684.
