TRAVERSE CITY — Glenn E. Foster, 82, of Traverse City, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 20, 2010, at Bortz Health Care. He was born on March 26, 1928, in Saginaw, the son of the late J. Glenn and Maude (Sarver) Foster, and was raised in Luther.Glenn was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps in 1946, and graduated from Luther High School that same year. On Aug. 25, 1950, in Indiana, he married the former Dorothy Burgess.In October of 1950, he was accepted into the Michigan State Police, where he served with pride and integrity for 25 years. He served posts in Ypsilanti, Ionia, Detroit, Marquette, Lansing and retired in 1976 from the South Haven Post, where he served as Post Commander. While living in the Williamsburg area, Glenn served as the Zoning Commissioner for Whitewater Township.Glenn is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Foster, of Traverse City; children Susan Foster, of Traverse City, Laura (Peter) Zientek, of Interlochen, Kevin (Kim) Foster, of Holland, and Robert (Vickie) Foster, of Arizona; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his brothers, Norman and George, and his sister, Dee Mrozik. Cremation has taken place.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, 203 Pleasant St., Belding. Burial will follow in River Ridge Cemetery in Belding.In remembrance of Glenn, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Michigan or to Bortz Health Care.
