Glenn Robert Heiney

May 3, 1951 — January 31, 2026

Glenn Robert Heiney, age 74, peacefully passed away at his home in Maple City, Michigan, on January 31, 2026. Glenn lived a full and meaningful life marked by honorable military service, high-level accomplishments in horsemanship, a successful self-made business, many treasured friendships, and deep family roots.

Glenn was born on May 3, 1951, to Evert Glen Heiney and Dorothy Heiney (DeLoose) in Moline, Illinois. Among the many milestones of his well-lived life, Glenn proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, raised children and grandchildren, and devotedly adored his late wife, Debra. Known throughout Leelanau County as a hardworking, honest man of integrity, Glenn's empathetic soul and kind heart brightened the lives of all who knew him.

In his leisure time, Glenn loved to camp and annually traveled many miles across our beautiful state with his camper. With immense pride, he also faithfully attended Glen Lake Lakers sporting events in support of his beloved grandsons and granddaughters. Glenn touched countless lives over the years and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Glenn is survived by his sister, Sandra Kay Harlan; his brother, William Harlan Heiney; his stepfather, Frank Kopekto; and his stepmother, Renee Heiney. He is also survived by his sons, Brian, Ben, and Dale; his daughter, Sharon; his grandsons, Henry and Gregory; and his granddaughters, Layla and Lily.

A memorial service celebrating Glenn's exceptional life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Sixth Street in Traverse City. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by the service at 3:00 p.m.

Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and Cherryland V.F.W. post 2780.
Glenn will be laid to rest on May 29, 2026, at Cleveland Township Cemetery in Leelanau County at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, a cause Glenn deeply believed in and supported personally over the years.
