Glenn Russell Smith, 68, of the Traverse City area, passed away at The Maples in Frankfort, Mi, after a life full of challenges caused by injuries from a car accident when he was not quite 3 years old.
Glenn was born on August 30, 1954 to the late William Robert Smith and Ellen Maurine (Boone) Smith. He was named after two pastors who served the family…Glenn Ball and Russell Lautner. He was the youngest of three children; brother Walter William died as an infant and sister Sally Smith Berlin who survives. Glenn enjoyed a special friendship with his cousin Judith A (Smith) Amon who survives along with many other cousins.
Glenn was a longtime member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. That membership network greatly influenced his outlook on life. When he was younger, Glenn worked for Asgard. That job led him to work in the kitchen at the Grand Hotel for three summers. He enjoyed hearing news about everyone. When he could get around, Glenn liked meeting buddies at the J&S for coffee. He liked to think about making things and enjoyed watching home improvement shows on television. He played several forms of solitaire. He was good at numbers and patterns which explains why he had his bingo cards at The Maples memorized. He led a simple life with appreciation for the people in it.
A celebration of Glenn's life, conducted by his cousin, Rev. Ted Smith, will take place on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 1:00 PM, at the family home at 9582 South West Bay Shore Drive, Traverse City,MI 49684. Per Glenn's request, cremation has taken place. He will be interred at Oakwood Cemetery on May 23, 2023 at 1:00 PM next to his parents and brother.
