Glenn Thomas "Tom" Aylsworth, 71, of Glen Arbor, passed away July 24, 2020.
Tom was born on May 9, 1949 in Frankfort, MI to the late Glenn and Juanita (Stanley) Aylsworth. He received his law degree from the Detroit College of Law in 1980, and he practiced law in Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties both in private practice, as an assistant prosecuting attorney and prosecuting attorney. On September 23, 1968, he married Kathy Ann Allen. They raised two daughters, Laura Aylsworth-Bonzelet and Edie Aylsworth, and a son, G.T. (Jill) Aylsworth.. He was a loving and supportive brother to Gladys, Warren and Greg, and father in law to Joseph Scott, all whom proceed him in death as well as his parents.
Tom's professional career started in Detroit as a special agent for the internal revenue service upon achieving his Juris Doctorate, he moved his family back to Northern Michigan and began practicing law and volunteering in his community. He was an active member of the Ski Patrol as a Patrol Leader at Sugar Loaf Mountain, MI, desiring to further his passion for medicine and helping others he became a Paramedic for Peninsula Township and Grand Traverse County. Tom was a 32nd degree Master Mason, a Shriner and Prospector.
Tom had a passion for being on the water and travel. He had the opportunity for an adventure of a lifetime by completing the Great Loop on his trawler with his brother and wife, trips to the Manitou Islands with family, crossing Lake Michigan to Manitowoc or just simple days on Glen Lake with his family. He was a history buff and car collector researching the history of each vehicle, he loved reading autobiographies and working in his woodshop. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family hunting. Tom loved sports both professionally, college and watching his kids and grandkids play. He was known for his determination, kind and compassionate spirit and love of Country.
Tom is survived by his wife Kathy, stepmother Jan Aylsworth of Traverse City; Stepsister Melissa (Doug) LaBelle of Charlevoix; Stepbrother Michael (Sara) Carpenter of Interlochen; children; Laura Aylsworth-Bonzelet of Glen Arbor, GT (Jill) Aylsworth of Empire and Edie Aylsworth of Cedar, grandchildren; Allie and Justin Bonzelet, Dylan Weinrich and Madeleine, Piper, Gigi and Lily Aylsworth as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will take place Sunday August 2, 2020 from 6-8pm at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place Monday August 3, 2020 at James R. Johnson Park in Empire at 10:00am. Tom's final resting place will be Empire Maple Grove Cemetery.
