Obituary

Glenwood "Glen" Wayne Salonen, 82, of Traverse City, passed away February 27, 2026, at Munson Medical Center.

Glen was born on June 24, 1943, in Mount Clemens, Michigan, to the late Sulo Richard and Adele Irene (Ohman) Salonen. He grew up in Calumet and loved living and growing up in the Upper Peninsula. After high school, he moved to the Ann Arbor Area. He met Linda C. Weed in nearby Ypsilanti while she was attending Eastern Michigan University. They married on January 10, 1970, in Westland, Michigan.

Together, they lovingly raised two children, Jeff and Cassie. Early in their marriage, they moved to Marquette to open a kitchen and bath cabinet shop. The shop evolved over the years, and Glen enjoyed his work. Eventually, the family moved to Traverse City to be closer to family; however, the Upper Peninsula always felt like home to him.

Glen was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent many years in the cabinet industry. In Traverse City, he worked for Creative Kitchens, where his son now also works. In his spare time, he deeply enjoyed hunting and fishing. Each fall, he would spend weeks living in his camper, making special memories with friends and family. Glen loved deer and turkey hunting, pursuing small game, and fishing. The family also cherished camping trips during their younger years, often spending nearly every summer together outdoors.

Glen will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of teasing others, and his stubborn moments. He was a true "Yooper" at heart, and his family will miss him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda of 56 devoted years; his son, Jeff (Siri) Salonen; his daughter, Cassie (Bob) Revett; his grandchildren, Taylor Salonen, Brad (Fiancé Shaina Kalbfleisch) Revett, and Dr. Becca (Jordan) Query; great granddaughters Aubrey and Adeline and a new little one on the way, along with several other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Richard and his sister, Patsy.

A service in his honor will take place at 5:30pm on Thursday, March 5, at Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Traverse City, with visitation beginning at 4:00 p.m. Luncheon following service. Memorial contributions may be directed to Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, possibly for playground equipment for the children.
