TRAVERSE CITY — Grace A. (Loomis) Henderson Mead, 98, of Traverse City, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011, at French Manor Senior Living in Traverse City.Grace was born April 3, 1913, in Scottville, to John and Edith Loomis. Grace was a graduate of Ludington High School and attended the University of Michigan for two years.Grace moved to Grand Rapids, where she met her future husband, Maurice M. Henderson. They married on July 23, 1938, in Ludington. Grace and Maurice moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where they lived for 34 years, raising two children, Lois Lee and Thomas John. Grace and Maurice retired to Traverse City in 1974.After Maurice's death in 1978, Grace married Louis Mead; he died in 1990.Grace was a member of the First Congregational Church, Traverse City Country Club, The Trillium Garden Club, Traverse City Musicale, Mozelle Sawyer Bridge Club, Chapter DC of the P. E. O. Sisterhood, and the Elks.Grace is survived by her two children; grandson, Bradley S. (Kesha) Henderson; and great-granddaughter Jessica; and grandson, Chad C. Weygand. Grace is also survived by her brother's oldest daughter, Susan Loomis Herrmann; and her sister's oldest daughter, Joclyn Birtwistle. Also surviving Grace are numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.Grace was preceded in death by her parents; aunts; and her brother, Donald Loomis; and her sister, Lois FergusonA celebration of life took place on July 10, 2011, at French Manor Senior Living, where Grace resided for more than four years. Grace was cremated and burial has taken place in the Henderson plot in Oakwood Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan.The family was served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
