Gregory A. Chormann Jr (41) of Mesa, Arizona passed away peacefully at his home on September 24, 2023. Greg was born on July 4, 1982 in San Diego, CA to Gregory A. Chormann and Laura Reyes. Greg was the only child of Greg Sr. and Laura. Greg graduated from Central High School in Traverse City, MI in 2000. During his high school years, he played football and wrestled on the high school varsity teams. It was during his years in high school when Greg first became interested in Art. Greg then graduated from Illinois Institute of Art - Schaumberg where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in 2005, majoring in Graphic Design. With his college degree in hand, Greg headed to Phoenix where he began to chart a course for himself as a creative artist and an independent thinker and began his career as a very successful tattoo artist with a very faithful and loyal following of clients. Greg was a very talented tattoo artist in the Phoenix area for the past 20 years. Greg had many loyal clients over the years who loved his work, and many clients would only trust Greg to do their tattoos. Inked Magazine featured Greg in an article a few years back.
Greg especially enjoyed the desert lifestyle during his first 10 years in Arizona with his longtime girlfriend Renee Sanders with whom they were blessed in 2009 with the birth of their son, Vaughn G. Chormann (Apache Junction, AZ.) Their world centered around their young son Vaughn, his activities and enjoying family life in the Arizona desert.
Greg loved sharing his passions with his young son Vaughn, and the early family years often involving laser tag, trampoline parks, and outdoor activities. Greg loved living in Arizona and enjoyed hiking, camping, hunting, and riding motorcycles. A true artist in every sense, Greg enjoyed Art in many forms; often attending or working at art shows and tattoo conventions and enjoying music and concerts. Greg was loved deeply by the numerous friends he met through the world of being a tattoo artist. His clients often becoming lifelong friends, a true family of a different kind.
Greg is predeceased in death by his mother, Laura Reyes; his father, Gregory A. Chormann; and his paternal grandmother, Carolyn A. Chormann. Greg is survived by his young son, Vaughn G. Chormann (Apache Junction, AZ); his paternal grandfather, Richard Chormann (Empire, MI); his aunt Cindy Chormann Hann (Oakton, VA); his uncle Jim Chormann (Glen Arbor, MI); and his five cousins, Christina (Chormann) Goodbrand, Matthew Chormann, Kimberly (Hann) Warner, Connor Hann, and Caitlyn Hann.
A memorial service will be held at a Private Family Ceremony in Empire, Michigan on October 20, 2023. Arrangements will be handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be sent to Phoenix Children's Hospital-Children's Heart Center, a pediatric unit that saved his son's life in 2009-2010, and to which Greg was incredibly indebted to and passionate about for the last decade. Arrangements in Phoenix have been handled by Messinger Indian School Mortuary in Scottsdale.
