Gregory George Sawmick, age 44, of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, in Manistee, Michigan.
Greg was born on August 29, 1981, in Traverse City, to Gregory Sawmick Sr. and Christine Wilson. He spent his life rooted in Northern Michigan, where he built lasting friendships and left a memorable impression on all who knew him.
A man of many talents, Greg could fix nearly anything he put his hands on whether it be repairing or troubleshooting. Greg was a talented portrait artist whose creativity reflected both depth and heart. Art was not just a hobby for him — it was an expression of who he was.
Greg was known as the life of the party. A true goofball with a contagious laugh, he had a rare gift for lifting spirits and making people feel at ease. He loved music, especially old-school rap, and often enjoyed listening to favorites like Snoop Dogg and Tupac. His humor, energy, and warmth will be deeply missed.
He was extremely proud of his Native American heritage and was a member of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, a connection that meant a great deal to him.
Greg is lovingly survived by his mother, ChristineWilson; his sisters, Amanda, Summer, and Christina; his children, Shyla Bosack, Gregory III Bennett, and Giizhap Sawmick; and his beloved granddaughters, Minwaadizi Fowler and Miikawaadizi Rogers. He leaves behind his close friend who was dear to his heart, Tara C. He also leaves behind extended family members and many friends who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gregory Sawmick Sr.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City, beginning at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
