Gwendolyn "Kaye" Hart, 94, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2024, at the Munson Healthcare Hospice House. The family wishes to extend many thanks to the wonderful staff for their kindness and compassion.
She was born on March 26, 1929, in Buckley, Michigan, to the late Albert and Mary (Bush) Brigham. She moved to Traverse City in 1947.
On July 18, 1952, she married the late Donald L Hart at the Wesleyan Methodist Church (now the Bayview Wesleyan Church) in Traverse City. Together, they raised three wonderful children, Debra, Brian, and Sharon. In her earlier years, she worked for Consumers Power, Montgomery Ward, and Manpower in the office. Later in life, she found joy working at the Interlochen Center for the Arts, sending out concert tickets.
Outside of work, she enjoyed reading and dedicated her time to volunteering, especially for Grace Point community meals. She was a devoted member of the First Church of the Nazarene. She always had a passion for missions, serving on many committees and working on many projects providing supplies and essentials to mission fields. Don and Kaye and other "motor home friends" traveled to various reservations in the United States to provide services and supplies for building projects needed. Kaye cherished her family, finding immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. A wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin, and friend, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her children, Debra K. Hart, Brian (Phyllis) Hart, Sharon (Al) Weiselberg; grandchildren, Joshua (Carrie) Hart, Jessica (Seth) Moffat, Kurtis (Corinna) Weiselberg, great-grandchild, Gibson J. Hart; sister-in-law, Jean (Hart) Young: nieces, nephews and many cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don (in 2011), and her sister, Wilda (Brigham) Nelson, brother-in-law, Rev. Eldon Nelson, and brother-in-law Roger Young.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 18, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with a visitation beginning at 10am. Pastor Richard Rice will serve as officiant. Following the service, a luncheon will take place in the fellowship center of the First Church of the Nazarene, which is being provided by its members.
Burial will take place at the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens following the Luncheon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Church of the Nazarene Grace Point Community Meals, 1023 Division St., Traverse City; or the Salvation Army. Please sign Kaye's online guestbook at
