Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY — Harlan L. Maue, 76, of Traverse City, died early Wednesday morning, Nov. 10, 2010, at home on his beloved river. Harlan was born in Manistee on Sept. 26, 1934, the son of the late John and Lillian Maue. On Nov. 7, 1980, he married his best friend, Teresa Eisner. They celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on Nov. 7, 2010.A longtime resident of the Grand Traverse area, Harlan spent his entire working career in the route sales industry, retiring in 1993 as owner/operator of Cains Distributing. Harlan was a hardworking, outgoing man who never met a stranger. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being on the river and most of all, spending time with his family.Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Teresa Maue; children, Jennifer Maue, John (Kristine) Maue, of Traverse City, Jerome (Lori) Maue, of Jenison, James Maue, of Traverse City, Robert (Lynne) Johnson, of Maple City, Laura Johnson, of Traverse City, and Kelly Kice, of Denver, Colo; grandchildren, Jessie (Donald) Stanley, Michael, Chris, Nick, Maddie and Rachel Maue, and Kayla, Andrew and Rachel Johnson; and great-granddaughter, Naomi Stanley. Surviving siblings are Betty Smith and Arlene Cloud, of Arizona. In addition to his parents, Harlan was also preceded in death by siblings, Barbara Couturier, Jack Maue and Ardyth Learmonth.Private family services will be held at a later date. In remembrance of Harlan, memorials may be directed to Munson Hospice or to the Alzheimer's Association.
