Harold Lewis Coates, 93, of Lake Ann, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 30, 2022.
Harold was born on April 19, 1929 in Newberry, MI to the late John and Sarah (Crothers) Coates. Harold served our Country in the United States Airforce as a mechanic during the Korean War. After his return from the service, he married Glordean "Gloria" York on September 6, 1955.
Harold worked on the family farm in Newberry and eventually moved down to Grand Traverse County and worked at Timberlee Resort, the Red Mill and ended his working career working 19 devoted years for the State Hospital.
Harold loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, tinkering in his garage, "cleaning" the garage, cutting wood and gardening. His deer hunting stories were his favorite to tell and retell to his family and friends. In his younger years he enjoyed the wood cutting and cut wood until his age caught up with him. He and his wife Gloria proudly built the family house from the ground up. They cleared the back hill so they could watch nature. He eventually built his own deer hunting cabin behind the house. Harold and Gloria did everything together and they just loved each other so much.
Surviving Harold is devoted wife Gloria of 67 years, children, Susan (Terry) Arnold, Diane (Bob) Mack, Carl (Anna) Coates, Daniel Coates, Lisa Coates, 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and many other loving family members and friends.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Harvey, Fred, Alice, Kate, Viola, Ina, Neoma, Howard, Glen.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home with a visitation beginning at 10am. Burial with full military honors will take place at the Green Briar Cemetery following the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Legion.
