Obituary

Harold Wright Quigley II, 67 of Traverse City passed away June 2, 2012 at his home. Harold was known to friends as "Quig" and to his family at "Butch". He was born in Detroit on June 4, 1944 to the late Harold Wright Quigley and the late Marjorie Davidson Quigley Bowersox. He attended Taylor Center High School, and graduated in 1962 serving as senior class president, Valedictorial, Captain of the football and tennis teams, and a member of the Taylor Center High School Band, playing drums and baritone. Upon graduation, he continued his education at Michigan State University.

In 1966, Quig put his university education on hold as he began his service with the US Army, studying Russian and German Linguistics at the Presidio of Monterey, California. Quig was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged in 1970, having been awarded the National Defensive Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Marksman M14.

Quig returned to civilian like in 1970, completing his BBA at Michigan State University.Quig then began a career as an accountant with the firm of Ernst & Young. In 1979, Quig relocated to Traverse City to raise his family, while furthering his accounting career with the firm Fuller, Somero & Black.

During the late 1990's Quig became semi-retired, and was already earning a reputation as a well known and well liked member of the Traverse City Soccer Community. In recent years, his greatest love was refereeing soccer games and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Quig was preceded in death by his parents, son Christopher, and sister Kathryn.

Quig is survived by his children Sara Quigley, Matthew (Dana)Quigley, Sandra (Edward) Potrafke, grandchildren Matthew Quigley Jr., and Alex Potrafke, sister Constance Overby, and members of his extended family.

A memorial service celebrating Quig's life will be held at 2 pm on June 10, 2012 at the TBAYS Soccer Complex on Keystone Road in Traverse City (712 Keystone Road North, Traverse City, MI, 49686). Quig will receive full military honors from the VFW Cherryland Post #2780.
