GRAYLING-Harriett Louise Welch,94, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 12, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Born May 10, 1924 in Webster City, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Blanche (Dowling) and Harry Crouch. On March 7, 1946, in Pontiac, MI she married Harold Isaac Welch.
Harriett lived and worked in Walled Lake, MI until 1994 when she moved to Traverse City to be closer to her family. She worked as secretary in Human Resources at GM Truck and Coach and later as secretary to the superintendent of Walled Lake Schools. Harriett will be fondly remembered for her love of family, friends, traveling, and crafting. Always proud of her Iowa heritage, she traveled to all 50 of the United States and to every continent except Antarctica. For her retirement she traveled the entirety of Route 66.
Harriett is survived by her daughter Marjorie "Marj" (Don) Kelsey of Grayling and daughter-in-law Ellen Welch of Elk Rapids: grandchildren David (Janice) Kelsey of Traverse City, Kathryn (Neil) Mann of Williamston, Laura (Aaron) Bodary of Traverse City, Jon (MaryKate) Welch of Clearwater, FL, and Michael Welch, Seattle, WA; great grandchildren Isaac and Emily Kelsey, Anna, Shaelyn, and Greyson Mann, Brayden Halliday, Addison, Lola, and Aubree Bodary, Jefferson and Alexander Welch.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Harold (1974), sister Marjorie (Glenn) Ford, and son LeRoy (Lee) (2015).
Harriett's family wishes to thank the staff of The Brook in Grayling and Munson Hospice for all of the loving care she was given.
A memorial service will be held on May 18, 2019, 1 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church, Traverse City, MI.
