TRAVERSE CITY — Harriett F. Wood, 83, of Traverse City, died Friday, April 1, 2011, at Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City.Harriett was born Monday, Aug. 29, 1927, to the late Raleigh and Retta (Davis) Shisler, in Traverse City. She graduated from high school here, and married Howard S. Wood on Friday, Aug. 23, 1946, in Traverse City.For many years, Harriett was employed as a registered medical assistant for B. W. Green, D.O., retiring in 1981. Harriett was a member of Central United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening. She and Howard ran a local cherry orchard and cattle farm, working together in that endeavor for many years. She and Howard also enjoyed attending CCC conventions over the years, as Howard had worked in the CCC.Her most memorable and enjoyable times were spent with her family she loved so dearly, as well as with her grand-dog, Shilo.Harriett is survived by her son, David and his wife, Jan, of Traverse City; her grandsons, Randall (Cassie) Wood, of Traverse City, and Jeffrey Sayblack, of Chicago; along with other extended family.She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, Jan. 20, 2006.Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, in the chapel of Central United Methodist Church, with Pastor Chris Lane officiating. Friends may greet the family at the church beginning one hour prior to the service.
